Stored Credential Transaction Framework Requirements

Visa and Mastercard recently introduced Stored Credential Transaction Framework requirements for merchant-initiated transactions and cardholder-initiated transactions. The Framework, effective October 12, 2018, defines rules and requirements for initial storage and subsequent use of payment credentials.

As a result of this change, Moneris Solutions Corporation (‘Moneris’) has or will be providing tools and guidelines for merchants to ensure they are able to meet the card brand requirements. Specific details are as follows:

Merchants with integrated payments solutions using Moneris APIs:

  • Specifications are available at https://github.com/Moneris
  • Client testing is available immediately.
  • The Moneris API will begin supporting the new requriements by April 30, 2018.

Merchants using the Moneris Hosted Pay Page or Hosted Vault:

  • At this time, there are no specifications required to be implemented, however there will be minor user interface changes.
  • For credentials stored prior to Oct. 12, 2018, there is no requirement to identify the first transaction.
  • Moneris will implement all back-end changes to support the framework requirements on July 31, 2018.

Merchants using the Moneris Virtual Terminal or Merchant Resource Centre:

  • There are no specifications required to be implemented, however there will be minor user interface changes.
  • For credentials stored prior to Oct. 12, 2018, there is no requirement to identify the first transaction.
  • Moneris will implement all back-end changes to support the framework requirements on July 31, 2018.

Merchants using batch submissions:

  • Transactions where a payment credential is stored for the first time must be submitted using the Moneris API, Virtual Terminal, Hosted Pay Page or Merchant Resource Centre. Subsequent transactions can continue to be submitted through a batch file.
  • Specifications will be available in early May 2018.
  • Client testing will be available July 31, 2018.
  • Moneris will begin supporting the new requriements on September 30, 2018.

Merchants that are Point of Authorization (POA) integrated:

  • The Host Messaging specification should be used. This is avaialable immediately, contact your integration specialist for more information. This applies to Visa transactions only.
  • Mastercard specifications will be available in late June 2018.
